The ceremony was organised with the participation of the College community and the Old Boys’ Association to honour the Army Commander for his distinguished service to the nation and to celebrate his appointment as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
Upon his arrival at the College premises, Lieutenant General Nilanth Premarathne was warmly welcomed by the Principal, Deputy Principals, members of the teaching staff, representatives of the Old Boys’ Association and the College community.
The welcoming ceremony featured a number of traditional and ceremonial events, including a performance by the College Band, a special dance performance, and a ceremonial reception by the College Cadet Platoon. A Guard of Honour was also accorded to the Army Commander.
The programme further included the hoisting of the National Flag, the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, the observance of a minute of silence, and the singing of the College Anthem.
A special video presentation highlighting the Army Commander’s school life, his achievements and his journey from a student of St. Servatius’ College to the highest professional appointment in the Sri Lanka Army was presented during the ceremony.
As a mark of gratitude and respect, special tributes were also paid to several of his former teachers who played an important role in shaping his character and leadership during his school career.
During his time at St. Servatius’ College, Lieutenant General Nilanth Premarathne held several important leadership positions, including Head Prefect, Captain of the Debating Team and Games Captain. His remarkable journey from the College to becoming the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army stands as a source of great pride to the entire Servatian community.
The occasion was a memorable and historic event for St. Servatius’ College, Matara, providing an inspiring example to the present generation of students of how dedication, discipline, leadership and commitment can pave the way towards serving the nation with distinction.
